Content The lecture offers students an introduction to the topic of innovation management in companies. In times of disruptive and radical innovations, well-founded knowledge in innovation management is an elementary core competence of companies in order to stay competitive. After learning the conceptual basics, students learn about managing the different stages of the innovation process, from initiative to the adoption of an innovation. In addition, strategic aspects and the human side of innovation management will be introduced. The lecture thus forms an excellent thematic orientation and introduction for undergraduate students for the advanced courses of the master studies.

Content This lecture covers informal and individual aspects of innovation. The overcoming of innovation barriers and the implementation of innovations in a business or a market requires creativity and strong commitment of individual persons. Especially informal factors of the corparate culture, collaboration and leadership are of great importance aside from formal structures and processes. Therefore, in the class the nature of innovation initiatives as well as barriers are fathomed and different role models of innovators (promotors, champions, boundary spanners, etc.) are introduced. Furthermore, organizational and management related vectors on individual creativity are covered, which are of great improtance, especially in early innovation stages. Finally, the cooperation of cross-functional innovation teams will be focussed.

Content In this lecture, students deepen the strategic aspects of technology and innovation management. For the reason of more complex technologies, increasing development times and shorter technology life cycles, technology management increasingly represents a core discipline that is critical to competition. The growing danger of disruption and the special status of radical innovations also require special strategic consideration. In this Lecture, students learn the theoretical tools to meet these challenges in a turbulent firm environment. In addition, the theoretical knowledge will be applied and further developed by means of practical lectures and case studies. Thematic focuses of this lecture include the management of disruptive and radical innovations, the organizational ambidextry, technology foresight and strategies in technology management. Furthermore, the topic of open innovation is an important part of this lecture.
